About me

After being trained in ceramics by Jan Snoek, Stella Siu Lie Ang studied advertising and audiovisual communication at the Willem de Kooning Art Academy in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Her career began in London where she worked under the name Stella Siu Lie Ang. First, in the field of photography as a stylist, and in the film industry on pop promo’s, commercials, and TV shorts. Mainly for MGMM, under directors David Mallet, Russell Mulcahy, and Brian Grant.
She worked in the art department, designing sets and storyboards. Including the feature film "Stormy Monday” by Mike Figgis, and as an independent art director on the TV short "Jive after Five In Dirty Work Work, a company she ran together with photographer and film maker Spencer Rowell, Stella was director and art director on several pop promos.
Her animation career began after visiting Peter Lord and David Sproxton of Aardman. Seeing the techniques of modelmaking and deeply impressed. By the films of the Quay Brothers she took a TV set apart and created Mr. Resistor and his world for MTV, for her independent company Petit Films. She also spent some time with Paul Berry, animator of Jack Skellington in the Nightmare before Christmass. This was followed by the concept and design for a children´s program for A & M Records. Stella created an animated trailer documentary featuring Katja Schuurmans. For a Human Rights Photo exhibition brought by the the United Nations and SGI to the City of the Hague.

In 2006 Stella launched her new company "Stellamation". Recent projects include Kick Aids out of Africa for Unicef and The Stop Child Labour commercial for McCann Erickson for Hivos.

Main interest:
Film, music, dance, movement, conceptual design. In a range of different techniques. Communication, whether it is educational, commercial, musical or theatrical.
